A marine buoy is a type of navigational aid that floats on the water's surface, anchored to the seabed by a chain. Buoys serve a wide range of purposes, including marking the boundaries of shipping channels and indicating shoals or hazards to navigation. Functioning as an unmanned, automated marine observation station, the buoy is anchored in a designated area and rises and falls with the waves, much like the navigational markers lining a shipping channel. Despite its unassuming appearance amidst the vast ocean, it plays a vital role; capable of operating continuously and reliably around the clock-even in harsh environments-it regularly measures and transmits data on more than ten types of hydrometeorological parameters.
