Basic Definition of Marine Equipment

Marine equipment is a collective term for the large-scale engineering equipment and auxiliary equipment used by humanity to understand, develop, utilize, and protect the ocean . The marine engineering equipment industry serves as the material and technological foundation for the development and utilization of marine resources and is a strategic emerging industry that my country is currently accelerating to cultivate and develop. Marine equipment is characterized by high technology, high investment, high output, high added value, and high risk, and it plays a significant role in driving the national economy.

Based on the current level of human understanding, marine equipment can generally be categorized into six main types. Marine transportation equipment primarily includes large container ships, oil tankers, dry bulk carriers, liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ships. Marine resource development equipment focuses mainly on machinery for extracting marine oil and gas resources, including various drilling platforms, production platforms, and floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels. Marine scientific research equipment consists primarily of various oceanographic research vessels, including full-ocean-depth manned submersibles. Marine defense equipment mainly includes aircraft carriers, destroyers, and submarines. Marine operational equipment includes offshore heavy-lift and installation vessels, pipe-laying vessels, dredgers, and emergency rescue and salvage vessels. Marine detection equipment is gradually forming a three-dimensional monitoring system that integrates satellite-based detection, ocean buoy and subsurface buoy detection, and seafloor observation networks.
Marine engineering equipment is a key subset of marine equipment, referring primarily to the large-scale engineering and auxiliary equipment used in the exploration, extraction, processing, storage and transportation, management, and logistical support of marine resources (particularly marine oil and gas).
